Throwing out the first pitch, with honey!

Honey Night in Des Moines:
A Sweeeet Success!

July 14, 2008

Sarah and Jim welcome the NHB to "Honey Night"We just returned from Des Moines and the wonderful Iowa Cubs after celebrating Honey Night at Principal Park on July 9th.   We were treated to a double-header, where we watched the Cubbies split with the Round Rock team.  As of this date, the Cubbies have a winning record and while we don’t want to brag, we sure are proud that they’ve put honey on their training table.

On Honey Night, we decorated the ballpark with banners, the scoreboard had honey messages and of course, we showed a fun video on the message board featuring our official spokesperson, former major league pitcher Turk Wendell.

Turk was a really big hit with the fans, and we figure he must have signed autographs for more than 300 fans.  Turk is spreading the message about the natural energy boost young and old ballplayers can get from honey.  Turk did several radio and television interviews while in Des Moines.  They asked him about his playing days, of course and about his love of honey.  He once played for the Iowa Cubs (and he pitched for the major league Chicago Cubs too!).  He’s a fan favorite in Des Moines, and the feeling is mutual.

Honey Night was marked by the National Honey Board giving out 1,000 little bottles of pure honey to the Iowa Cubs fans.  It was really interesting to hear all the comments.  Fans were telling us how they put honey in their tea, or how they spread honey on their toast every morning and how they use honey whenever they BBQ or make a summer salad dressing.
We’ve got some great pictures of Honey Night at the Iowa Cubs.  It is our pleasure to be one of the team’s sponsors this season.
