Spicy Honey Butter Pastry Knots with Gruyere

YIELD: Makes 24 knots

INGREDIENTS

4 T - salted butter, melted

3 T - honey

1 tsp. - cayenne pepper

1 tsp. - nutmeg

1 box - puff pastry, thawed according to package directions

4 oz. - Gruyere, cut into 24 cubes

DIRECTIONS

Preheat oven to 400°F; spray muffin tin(s) with non-stick cooking spray.

Whisk together the melted butter, honey, cayenne pepper, and nutmeg.

Cut the 2 sheets of puff pastry into 24 equal strips. Make a loose “knot” from each pastry strip and insert into the muffin tin.

Press a piece of the gruyere into each pastry knot and brush with the honey-butter mixture. Bake for about 15-18 minutes or until the pastry is puffy and golden.

Remove the pastry knots from the oven and brush with any remaining honey butter, serve immediately.

TIP

Don’t worry if your pastry “knots” are not perfect, they will still be delicious! Also, you can add some chopped nuts and/or some ham for a more substantial appetizer.
