The Fourth of July is nearly upon us, and while we’ve already shared some of our favorite summer beverages, this week we’re feeling inspired by the spirit of the holiday – and its colors – and thought it would be fun to share some of our favorite red, white and blue recipes.

Over the years we have shared the history of honey bees here in the U.S., including their move to the New World with the Pilgrims, their relationship with our Presidents, and, of course, the value of their pollination work today. There is no denying that honey bees are essential to our way of life, and as stewards of our global food supply, they help bring us many of the fresh ingredients that we enjoy as part of a healthy and balanced diet, including colorful and flavorful berries.

From the breakfast table to the appetizer platter, honey and berries are a versatile pairing that make any mealtime an adventure in flavor, and their colors shine as vibrantly as the flag we live under – and that’s not to mention the health benefits!

According to our friends at Healthline.com, berries are great source of antioxidants (blueberries 15% DV, strawberries 160% DV, blackberries 50% DV, and raspberries 53% DV) which may help “keep free radicals under control,” and may even reduce your risk to various diseases. These berries are also a good source of fiber which helps you feel fuller longer, and may even help you consume less calories, making weight management easier. And, like honey, berries are a natural source of various vitamins and minerals.

For all these reasons and more we love enjoying a variety of berries, especially during the summer season, and below are six of our favorite honey + berry recipes that are sure to get you in the mood to celebrate the red, white, and blue!
